TomTom GO: Navigation, Maps App Reviews

Extraordinarily bad

The simplest tasks seem to be impossible. Navigate to a contact? Good luck. The interface is incomprehensible. Ive switched back to the old version. And if this becomes the only tomtom option Ill move on.

Requires >6GB of storage for Maps!!

Not only is TomTom only giving me 3years free for my full life time subscription of the last TomTom app they arent upgrading anymore BUT now I have to sacrifice over 6gb just to install the map of the continental US!!! Never would I have expected an app to utilize that much storage space!! For that reason Ive never gotten a phone with the larger amounts of storage space because I felt it was a waste. You are probably wondering why this review isnt commenting on the functionality of the app itself... Well I cant actually download the maps because it needs over 6GB and I only have 5.5GB free and cant delete anything else... Thanks TomTom for being a storage space hawg!!!

Fantastic

Have used Tomtom since iPhone 3. Also, Google, Navigon, etc. This new version has really nice, readable interface. The traffic services are really accurate and helpful. Just used it driving all over California, rural and cities. Good job!

Not A Upgrade to me

Just "upgraded " I am not impressed so far. Have two other TomTom units and liked using the old "USA" version when possible. Still looking in app for some of the old settings and preferences that are not listed. If I can go back to old version , plan on it. Feels like we are beta testing the app

Not working & lack of support

The new update removed my username and the app is not restoring my purchase - though it states that Purchase Restored!!!

Aweful

What good is a pretty app that has lousy intelligence. Used this for four days in Seattle to give it a chance? Traffic detection works well. Routing is just awful. I would think as this is the primary purpose of a GPS app it would be the focus. It would have you going on a route and then flip to turning you around or needing to be 3 lanes over. Several times it routed to streets that didnt exist. I would think poor GPS signal could be the issue except the old TomTom app, Google Maps, and Waze have no issue. That is what I loved about the old app. Its routing was usually spot on. Too bad. Stick to the old.

Bad

Confusing interface, missing major features like navigating to a contact from my address book. Major step BACK.

Questions????????

Wheres the list route? I like to see my route before i hit the road? Also why replace the exits sign with all those arrows?

Getting There, subscription model is ODD

My initial thought after trying out GO was, where are my contacts? Well now that 1.1 specifically mentions the ability to navigate to contacts I still have the same question. I can not figure out how to do this. Unfortunately (as has been the case for years) TomTom’s support website is always outdated. The current versions of the manual (HTML and pdf) have not been updated to include this feature either. The FAQs section mentions ‘Navigate to contacts’ as a feature they plan to add in a future update - so what gives? is this feature really there yet? c’mon TomTom, getting three ‘free’ years of the subscription ‘might’ be a decent consolation for users who shelled out money for your original app, but lets get your act together and fully support this new one.

Don’t go Go.

The former TomTom U.S.A. app (as of this date still available here and recommended) should have just been tweaked and rebranded “Go” if they wanted a more trendy, universal name for it. This new version is a cumbersome mess, starting with bloated icons and a crowded interface. The clear, elegant traffic indicator of the older version has been replaced by one much smaller and crammed with gas station icons that cover the traffic info. I couldn’t find a way to eliminate the stations, so it seems to be a default setting, where it’s obvious it should be an option for rural or unfamiliar places. Driving in a city makes for a cluster of large gas pump icons covering the problem traffic areas. I’ll be happy to be proven wrong if there is a setting to cut the stations, but it’s only one of the annoying problems of the new TomTom Go experience.

Horrible ideas

Horrible UI and all features missing. You need to pay a subscription to use the app. Huge sized maps makes the app over 5gb. No thanks! Just use Apple maps for free.

Im happy but awaiting more features

I used the TomTom nav app for years. This app lacks some features but is as good or better at traffic accuracy and routing. this update brings contact integration and interface changes. TomTom has stated they will add more features like multiple waypoints. Fast smooth graphics. I drove in the rainy SoCal weather this morning and was routed very well. Drive home and found the traffic to be very accurate through Los Angeles and Orange County. Much improved graphics with 3D buildings although no color choices (the colors are great IMHO). And 3 years free for existing users is nice! Wish list would be: more voices calendar integration Better favorites organization (not just alphabetical) Change POI on main menu (default is parking and fuel). Needs waypoints, limited to one destination with no in between stops.

Address Not Found

What good is a GPS app that cant find an address? I will stick with my old TomTom app that has never let me down, rather than this horrible storage hog - 3GB of space used and it cant find anything.

Battery killer

Its unacceptable that this app drains 20% of my battery in 25 minutes. Why release the app when its essentially in beta?

Horrible

Wow! TomTom it took years to make one step forward and minutes to take 9 steps backwards! Im amazed how horrible this new app is!

Gps guru

Sad to say, very disappointed! Dumb down version of the original, with weak visuals of interchanges, and no ability to alter route.

Drains battery at an alarming rate

I installed Go v1.1 Usa+Canada and tried it for the first time to drive a 9 mile distance. The app was running on iOS 9.3.1, iPhone 6+. In 5 minutes it drained 40% of charge. It went from 100 to 60%. I plugged it into car charger and even then the app was discharging the phone, albeit at a lower rate. I switched from 3D view to 2D which did not make any noticeable difference in power consumption.

Love it!

Best app so far. Also great that I can navigate with out data or cellphone reception!!

Dont use it. It cost accident, no kidding.

It cost accident. No 2D Forks road map. Map lag, recalculate lag. Road name too small, next turn street name too small. It tell you turn in to one way U turn corner. This U turn for opposite lane. For example if you want go to opposite and face opposite. Also you site is go right and one way. You need go to next U turn to turn in to the opposite. But it tell you go in to the opposite U turn and turn in to the opposite because is short way. But if you do, it will cost Accident or police will pull you over. Dont use, if you dont want go to hospital or prison. Go back old Tomtom, otherwise Tomtom will lose customers.

Does not work on iPad

Old version of tomtom usa&canada can use on iPad, while this one cannot
